Owls topple Generals, move to 7-0

DANVILLE, Ky. -- A Sunday win over Washington and Lee University ran the Kenyon College men's tennis team's win streak to seven straight matches to open the 2026 season. Playing a neutral-site match at Centre College, the No. 13-ranked Owls toppled the No. 33-ranked Generals, 5-2.

The return of junior Alejandro Gonzalez to the Kenyon lineup sparked the Owls' success. Gonzalez, playing in the No. 1 singles spot, recorded a quick 6-0, 6-3 win against Washington and Lee's top player, Heys Parker. Earlier, Gonzalez paired with senior Paulo Pocasangre Kreling in the No. 1 doubles match and the two came away with a 7-5 victory against Parker and Justin Ilie.

Kenyon first-year Maximo Llamas Castellanos and sophomore Juozas Cioladis won at No. 2 doubles, giving the Owls the overall doubles team point. The Kenyon duo rolled to a 6-2 win against the Generals pairing of Ryan Good and Sanjheev Rao.

Up 2-0 with the doubles point and Gonzalez's singles win, the Owls rattled off three more match wins at the top of their lineup to secure the team victory and improve to 7-0.  Llamas Castellanos won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Pocasangre Kreling added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 and Cioladis rounded out the Kenyon singles wins, taking the No. 4 match by a 6-4, 6-0 count.

Washington and Lee, which fell to 3-2 with the loss, picked up a match win at No. 3 doubles, as well as at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

Next up for the Kenyon team is a trip to Crawfordsville, Indiana on Saturday for a match against Wabash College. After that, the team will head to Orlando, Florida, for its annual slate of spring break matches.
