Owls cap regular season with Fast Chance

GAMBIER, Ohio -- In the final meet of the 2025-26 regular season, the Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team hosted swimmers from about 10 other teams in Saturday's unscored Fast Chance Invitational, staged for one final chance at improving, or locking up, NCAA Division III Championship qualifying times.

Individually, first-year Thomson Parlette had Kenyon's best swim of the day. He finished the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:48.78. That easily cleared the NCAA 'B' cut of 1:49.64, but it was not Parlette's best in the event. He achieved that at last night's First Chance Invitational, registering a season best 1:48.61.

While other Kenyon swimmers came close, none recorded any more NCAA 'B' cuts. The closest to doing so was Kristof Szappanos, also a first-year member of the team. He completed the 200-yard backstroke time trial in 1:49.04, which was a personal season best, but just missed the 'B' standard of 1:48.83.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, three Kenyon swimmers came within 10 seconds of the 'B' cut of 15:50.88, but none cleared it. That trio was led by first-year Matthew Amodio, who turned in a time of 1:57.85. Classmate Conner Verbanas clocked in at 15:58.22, and sophomore Gabriel Cowart wrapped up his race in 16:00.00.  Both Amodio and Cowart swam faster times earlier in the season, but Verbanas' time was a personal season best.

Looking ahead, the Owls will soon learn the make-up of their NCAA roster and start preparations for the national meet, which will be held March 18-21 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
