GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College Men's Tennis team put together a perfect Sunday in North Coast Athletic Conference action, sweeping a doubleheader with 7-0 victories over John Carroll University and Ohio Wesleyan University to start conference play unbeaten.
Kenyon opened play at home on Sunday morning with a 7-0 win over John Carroll at the Jasper Tennis Courts. The Owls seized early momentum by sweeping doubles play, as Eliezer Gonzalez and Rohan Sriram earned a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles, followed by Jay Kedar Dixit and Stylianos Papamichael with a 6-1 victory at No. 2. Juozas Cioladis and Maximo Llamas Castellanos completed the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at the top flight.
In singles, Kenyon continued to roll, winning all six matches in straight sets to secure the shutout. Llamas Castellanos led the way with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles versus Jean Davin of JCU, while Paulo Pocasangre earned a 6-1, 6–0 win at court two. Dixit had an easy day at the office, sweeping his opponent by a tally of 6–0, 6–0 at No. 3. Papamichael (6–2, 6–0), Sriram (6–1, 6–0), and Sree Kondaveeti (6–1, 6–0) each followed their fellow teammates with dominant wins to seal the conference-opening result.
Following a brief turnaround, the Owls traveled to Delaware, Ohio, and produced another commanding performance, earning a 7-0 road victory over Ohio Wesleyan. Kenyon again swept the doubles point, with Cioladis and Llamas-Castellanos picking up a 6-2 win at No. 1, Paulo Pocasangre and Sriram took care of business at number two with a 6-4 decision. The team of Gonzalez and Papamichael came away with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Singles play mirrored the morning session, as the Owls did not drop a set. Llamas Castellanos secured a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1, Cioladis followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the two spot. Dixit almost had a similar result to what he had earlier, only conceding twice at court three (6–2, 6–0). Papamichael (6-1, 6-0) took care of business at four while Sriram secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory at court five. Kondaveeti rounded out the Owls efforts with a sweep at court six (6–0, 6–0).
Up next, the Owls will host a doubleheader on Saturday, February 14, welcoming Rhodes College and Otterbein University for a pair of nonconference matchups. The first match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., with the second to follow at 3:00 p.m.
