Owls golf continues climb up national polls

GAMBIER, Ohio -- With the results of some recent strong tournament showings, the Kenyon College men's golf team made upward movement in a couple of national polls and rankings that were released this week. Most notably, the Owls reached the No. 10 spot in the Golf Coaches Association of America's Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA DIII Poll.

In addition to that top-10 spot, the Owls climbed to the No. 12 spot in the most recent national ranking from Scoreboard Powered by clippd. Within that same Scoreboard ranking system, the Kenyon men sit at No. 3 in Region V, just behind Carnegie Mellon University and Illinois Wesleyan University.

In the Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA DIII Coaches Poll, Carnegie Mellon is ranked at No. 3 nationally and Illinois Wesleyan is at No. 8. University of Mary Hardin-Baylor sits just ahead of Kenyon, at No. 9.

The Owls were previously ranked at No. 16 in the Bushnell/Golfweek NCAA DIII Coaches Poll, but back-to-back fifth-place finishes in the Tiger Invitational and the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational, both tournaments loaded with nationally-ranked teams, thrust the Owls up six spots in the national poll.

The Kenyon team has this weekend off from competition, but will next head to Alabama to compete in the Capitol City Classic, which gets started on Monday, April 6 and will be hosted by No. 1-ranked Huntingdon College.
