Chintala breaks record, Owls honor seniors with a win

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team opened up the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schedule at home on Saturday afternoon, taking on Wittenberg University and also honoring the 2026 senior class.

Although the Tigers scored first, the Owls offense made it look easy throughout the game, scoring 17 goals for the rest of the contest to pick up the team's first NCAC win.

The biggest moment of the game came in the third quarter, when Kenyon had already built a 12-2 lead. Senior attackman David Chintala scored his fifth point of the game to break the program's all time points record, eclipsing Justin Martinich's record of 238 from 1999-2002.

Back in the first half, Gavin Gumucio turned in four goals in the first 30 minutes to lead the team, while Chintala and Mike Kapral each added two. Tanner Lewis and Henry Powell each found the back of the net to cap off the dozen.

Kenyon closed the game on a 7-0 run, with five of those tallies coming in the third. Harrison Curtiss and Alex Haag each scored before Chintala's record breaking goal at 9:29 in the third. Kapral and Chintala would each find twine to close the quarter, and Roger Muckenfuss and Antonio Miguens got involved in the fourth to cap off the victory.

For the game, the Owls fired a whopping 83 shots on goal, which is second all time in program history, with 45 of them on target. The home team also brought in 53 ground balls and caused nine turnovers, both season highs.

Lewis and Chintala tied the team with six points each, with Lewis notching his career high with five assists. On the defensive end, Colin Williams caused three turnovers while Jack Laganza caused two. Will Jordan went 18-of-20 from the faceoff dot and brought in a career high 12 ground balls. Adam Hall had eight saves in net, and Jac Dimaculangan added one.

After the win, teammates and fans celebrated the 2026 senior class, which includes Mike D'Eletto, Owen Breen, Gavin Gumucio, Mike Kapral, David Chintala, Luke Riney, Will Jordan and Adam Hall. Kenyon also honored Lucian Li, a member of the team and the class of 2026 who passed away in 2023.

Up next, the Owls head to Delaware to take on Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 4 at 1:00 pm.
