COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Kenyon College women's lacrosse team wrapped up its trip to Colorado on Thursday evening, taking on host Colorado College in a non-conference matchup at Washburn Field. Despite a late offensive push in the fourth quarter, the Owls fell by a final score of 13-5.
Kenyon came out aggressive in the opening minutes, controlling the first draw and generating several early opportunities. Lily Mason fired the game's first shot and Ashley Quinn followed with a free-position attempt, but Colorado goalkeeper Cassidy Schnaufer turned away the chances to keep the game scoreless. The Tigers eventually broke through at the 12:04 mark and continued to build momentum late in the quarter, taking a 4-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
Colorado extended their advantage in the second quarter, adding three more goals to push the margin to 7-0 at halftime. Kenyon had chances throughout the period, including free-position looks from Mason and Bridgette Cassidy, but Schnaufer made key saves to keep the Owls off the scoreboard.
The Owls finally broke through early in the third quarter during a Colorado penalty sequence. With a two-player advantage, Charlotte Skelly capitalized on the opportunity and buried a woman-up goal at the 12:36 mark to put the Owls on the board. The Tigers answered with several goals of their own down the stretch of the quarter, sending Kenyon into the final period trailing 11-1.
KC found their offensive rhythm late in the contest with Ashley Quinn started the surge at 12:40, finishing a pass from Ella Baxter to make it 12-2. After Colorado answered, Kenyon mounted a strong closing stretch behind Ashley Auerbach. The sophomore netted a hat-trick in the final eight minutes, including a free-position conversion and another tally with just 10 seconds remaining. The late scoring run trimmed the deficit as the Owls closed the game with four goals in the final quarter.
Auerbach led Kenyon with a hat trick, while Skelly and Quinn each added a goal. Baxter recorded two assists and Josie DeBruer chipped in one helper. Bridgette Cassidy controlled a team-high five draw controls while Ashley Quinn scooped a team-high five groundballs. In goal, Meagan Lacombe played the full 60 minutes and made three saves dropping her season save percentage to .357.
Up next, the Owls will take a six-day break before heading to Holland, Michigan, for a matchup against Hope College on Wednesday, March 11. First draw is set for 5:00 p.m.
