Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Owls sweep senior day doubleheader

GAMBIER, Ohio – The No. 10-ranked Kenyon College men's tennis team delivered a celebratory performance on senior day Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Wittenberg University and DePauw University at Vandenberg Courts. The Owls opened the morning celebrating Eliezer Gonzalez, Paulo Pocasangre Kreling and a 5-0 victory over Wittenberg before returning to the courts later in the day to blank DePauw, 7-0.

Kenyon wasted little time asserting itself in the opening dual against Wittenberg, jumping out quickly during doubles play. The pairing of Eliezer Gonzalez and Rohan Sriram made quick work of their opponents at the top flight, cruising to a 6-0 victory over Christian Droz and Sam Garay. Moments later, Jay Kedar Dixit and Stylianos Papamichael wrapped up the doubles point with a 6-1 win against Benjamin Glassman and Daniel Patel.

The Owls carried that momentum straight into singles competition and never let up. Gonzalez anchored the lineup with a sharp 6-0, 6-1 win over Droz at the No. 1 spot, while Dixit followed with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph against Garay on court two.

Further down the lineup, Sriram turned in a dominant performance, shutting out Glassman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Sree Kondaveeti capped his dual with another flawless outing, defeating Patel 6-0, 6-0 to seal the 5-0 result.

After a brief break, the Owls returned to the courts for the second half of the doubleheader against DePauw and once again seized the early edge in doubles play.

Juozas Cioladis and Maximo Llamas Castellanos delivered a winning effort at the No. 1 position, grinding out a 7-6 (7-3) victory over William Cramer and Finley Buelte. KC quickly followed with another win at the second flight as Dixit and Paulo Pocasangre handled Will Hutchinson and Paul Castleman, 6-3. The Gonzalez brothers (not really), Eliezer and Alejandro, locked down the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Thomas Hargreave and Scott Anderson on court three.

Singles play proved just as one-sided for the Owls, who swept all six matches to complete the shutout. Alejandro Gonzalez set the tone at the top spot with a composed 6-3, 7-5 victory over Buelte, while Llamas Castellanos followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Anderson on court two. Pocasangre continued the momentum at the third position, defeating Castleman 6-2, 6-2, and Cioladis added another point with a 6-1, 6-3 performance against Viktor Ronnberg.

Dixit navigated a tight opening set before pulling away for a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Cramer at the No. 5 spot. The final point of the day came from Sriram, who battled back after dropping the first set to outlast Hargreave 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 in a tiebreak.

The Owls now turn their attention to the regular-season finale, a rivalry showdown against Denison University. The match is set for Saturday, April 18, in Gambier, with first serve scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
