Kenyon women win third straight tournament

WOOSTER, Ohio -- Despite being a first-year program, the Kenyon College women's golf team continues to crank out results normally reserved for far more experienced teams. Monday, the Owls chalked up another win—their third straight—by running away with the trophy for The College of Wooster's Eva Shorb Weiskopf Invitational, held at Wooster Country Club.

The Owls posted a team score of 333 during Sunday's first round and then came back with a 320 in Monday's second round. Their final total of 653 was nearly 50 strokes better than the second-place team, John Carroll University, which totaled a 702.

Other North Coast Athletic Conference teams in the seven-team field included host Wooster, which finished third (716), and Ohio Wesleyan University, which tied for fourth place (755).

All four of Kenyon's scoring golfers finished within the top five on the individual leaderboard. Sasha Belova won the tournament, her second win this season, by shooting a 12-over-par 156 across the two rounds. She carded a 78 in each round.

Rafa Plasa was just one stroke away, finishing with a 157 on rounds of 80 and 77. That was her fourth top-five finish in as many events played.

Kenyon's other two scoring golfers, Camryn Nelson and Jane Fanning, placed fourth and tied for fifth, respectively. Nelson fired rounds of 87 and 80 for a 167, while Fanning put up scores of 88 and 85 for a 173.

The Owls have one more tournament on their regular-season schedule and that is DePauw University's Spring Clash, a one-round competition being played Sunday. After that, the Owls will focus on the NCAC Championship, which starts on May 1.
