NCAC picks Plasa for Athlete of the Week award

CLEVELAND -- Based on her performance in Kalamazoo College's Steven Tyler Memorial Invitational, Kenyon College first-year Rafa Plasa was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for women's golf.

The announcement was made Tuesday, eight days after Plasa finished in a tie for second place in a field of 34 golfers. Her performance helped lift the Kenyon team to a first-place showing, the team's second straight tournament win.

Kalamazoo's Invitational was a one-round competition held at The Moors Golf Club in Portage, Michigan. On that par-72, 5,600-yard track, Plasa put up a score of three-over 75. She played the front nine at one-under par, carding two birdies and one bogey. She then played the back nine at four-over, with four bogeys.

Plasa, who is a member of the Kenyon women's soccer team during the fall season, joined competition with the golf team at the start of March. To date, she's played in four tournaments, has four top-five finishes, including two-runner up finishes, and is tied for the team lead with a season scoring average of 78.0.
