Owls shoot two under after 18 at NCAAs

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Kenyon College men's golf team teed it up amongst the nation's best squads for the first round of the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships on Tuesday morning from Mission Inn Resort & Club.

After 18 holes at the El Campeon course, the Owls amassed a two-under par team score, which is good enough for third place out of 43 teams at the moment. Round one play was suspended early into the afternoon slate, so 19 teams still need to finalize their scorecards Wednesday.

After carding six birdies and one bogey in his first round, Adrian Jordan leads Kenyon at five under par (67). The sophomore logged back-to-back birdies twice for the round and was six under par through his first eleven holes. The mark also puts him atop the 225 player field currently and ties his season-low round.

Up next for the Owls was Rafael Frias IV, who checked in at even par. He made one birdie and one bogey per side to slide into T-28 on the individual leaderboard.

Carding his opening 18 in style was Jaiden Koonar, who ended at a 73 (+1). One circle and a square on the first nine led to a colorful scorecard on the back, which included two birdies, five bogeys and a hole in one on the par-three eighth hole, playing 145. He sits in a tie for 53rd after his round.

Connor Gray rounded out Kenyon's four-man scorecard, coming in at 74 after his first round to put him in T-79th. He carded three birdies throughout his first 18, but three bogeys and a double narrowly kept him from red figures.

Jonathan Oakes was fifth for the Owls, though his score did not contribute to the team's two-under mark. The junior opened the tournament with an eagle on the par-five tenth hole and made two more birdies on the day, but ended with a 76 (+4).

Overall, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges lead the way with a four-under par score. Carnegie Mellon University (-3) is ahead of Kenyon by one, while three teams currently inside the top ten, Farmingdale State, Bethel University and the University of Hartford, still need to finish up their first 18 holes.

Round two of the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships will resume on Wednesday, as the Owls will play the Las Colinas course looking to finish inside the 18-team cut line and advance to the final two rounds of play.
