Owls drop 3-2 contest to Colonels

DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Kenyon College field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to the Colonels of Centre College after a very quick start in the first half of the game.

The Colonels offense was apparent as they went up early, scoring late in the fifth minute of the first quarter. Centre was awarded a penalty corner, one of its nine all game, and inserter Abbie Woolley ended up recording the goal. Woolley scored the second Centre goal not even five minutes later at the 10:40 minute mark. 

The Owls responded before the first quarter was up at 12:02 with a goal from senior forward, Rigby Zentner. Zentner, a 2026 NCAC Athlete of the Week, picked up her second goal of the season and cut the Centre lead to 2-1.

In the second quarter, the Colonels forwards line saw little action, but when they had the chance, they capitalized. First-year forward, Rylee Carothers, put one into the back of the net at the 19:30 minute mark, sending the Colonels up, 3-1. 

Once again, the Owls responded. This time it was Maren Lawrence who contributed a goal for Kenyon. Lawrence scored in the 23rd minute of the second period to narrow the Centre lead to one goal.

The third and fourth quarters were silent from scoring action, however the Owls created some very good offensive opportunities. Kenyon outshot Centre 14-10, putting eight of those on frame and forcing Centre goaltender, Addie Sheridan, to make six saves. Sofia Chaves recorded two saves for the Owls.

Kenyon field hockey will be back in action on Sunday, September 20th as they take on Rhodes College at 11 a.m.
