Owls open season with win over OWU

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's cross country team placed the top two runners and nine of the top-10 runners Friday evening, as the Owls opened the 2026 campaign with a convincing 18-45 victory over the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops in the annual Port Kenyon Opener.

Kenyon's top runner was junior Charlie Menzel, who cleared the 6k course in 19:47.0, just ahead of first-year teammate Evan Blenkinsop, who claimed the runner-up spot with a time of 19:53.3.

Ohio Wesleyan's Jacob Blubaugh placed third, clocking in at 19:55.4, but it took nearly 80 more seconds before the next Battling Bishop crossed the line. In that same span, seven more Kenyon runners completed the race. That second wave of Owls was led by first-year Andrew Rich, who finished fourth in 20:13.1, and sophomore Jackson Beemer, who nailed down fifth place in 20:27.8.

The next three runners to cross the line rounded out Kenyon's scoring seven. That trio included first-year Austen Boyd, who was sixth in 20:33.7, sophomore Champ Blose, who finished seventh in 20:37, and junior Luke Galik who stopped the clock at 20:48.7 for an eighth-place showing.

The Kenyon team will continue to train and build up stamina for its next meet, which will be the All-Ohio Classic, hosted by Cedarville University on September 18.
