Owls take second place at Highlander Invite

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Trying to make-up for last weekend's cancelled meet at Lehigh University, the Kenyon College men's cross country team was a last-minute addition to Saturday's Highlander Invitational at Houghton University. The move proved to be a good one, as the Owls finished second in the field of 13 teams.

Rochester Institute of Technology won the event with 59 team points. Kenyon was not far behind, tallying 67 points for the runner-up spot. Lock Haven placed third with 78 points.

Kenyon's top individual runner was sophomore Noah Berg, who completed the 8k course in a personal record time of 25:36.3. That landed him in 10th place while starting off the Owls scoring with seven points.

Kenyon's next two runners to finish were Evan Blenkinsop and Andrew Rich, both first-year student-athletes. Blenkinsop took 13th place in a time of 24:40.1 and Rich was just one stride back, placing 14th with a time of 25:41.1. Together, they combined for 21 team points.

Next up for the Owls was junior Charlie Blackmer, who crossed the finish line in 25:54.8 to place 18th in the field of 185 runners. Sophomore Champ Blose then closed out the Kenyon scoring with a 27th-place finish in a personal record time of 26:15.6.

The Kenyon men have just one more regular-season race left. They'll compete next weekend in Oberlin College's Regional Rumble, before they start preparations for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, which is scheduled for October 31.
