Owls race to first-place finish at home

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's cross country team opened its 2026 season by racing to a first-place finish at the Port Kenyon Opener.

Pacing the owls from the front was junior and first-time competitor Mathilde LeBlanc, who finished in first with a 4k time of 14:09.3.

Right behind LeBlanc, junior Lucie Prior crossed the line in 14:54.8 to take 3rd place out of 21 competitors. Senior Olivia Ide followed at 14:58.4, finishing 4th, while first-year Ellie Allan crossed the finish line at 15:38.0 for a 10th place finish. In 11th place was first-year Eliza Herber, making her mark at 15:50.9, and rounding out the team's scoring was first-year Katherine Novak and senior Eva Shannon. Novak grabbed 13th at 16:04.4 and Shannon crossed at 16:33.8 for a 15th place finish.

Delaney Gradwell took 17th place for the Owls with a time of 16:52.7. Adding on to that was senior Hannah Gross, finishing in 20th at 17:14.8, and first-year Corinne Elmore, crossing at 18:25.1.

The Owls battled to the top with a final score of 25 points, enough to take down local competitor, Ohio Wesleyan University. The Battling Bishops repeated familiar success with having seven runners succeed in contributing points to their total score (30 pts.). With the top-three Kenyon athletes running sub-15, the Owls were able to secure the first-place finish.
