GAMBIER, Ohio (April 10, 2012) Three second-half free-position goals from Molly Chapman helped Denison University edge the Kenyon College women's lacrosse team, 9-7, Tuesday night in North Coast Athletic Conference action. The win was the fifth-straight for the Big Red while the Ladies fell for the fourth game in a row.
Senior
Monty Sherwood sent the game to halftime in a 5-5 tie after she fired in a shot from the eight-meter arc with two seconds remaining in the opening period. Kenyon (4-6, 0-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) was back on the attack ten minutes into the second half with two more goals in under a minute. Junior
Marissa Henderson notched an unassisted score at the 20:54 mark and sophomore Katherine Lang scored her second of the contest off an
Emily Nichols assist 48 seconds later.
The quick spurt gave the Ladies their first lead of the game, 7-5, but the Denison defense was about to take control. The Big Red (9-3, 3-0 NCAC) only allowed Kenyon one shot attempt the remainder of the half and none inside the final 12 minutes. Chapman, who finished with a game-high five points, took care of things on the offensive end to give Denison the comeback victory.
Lang was the only Lady to find the back of the cage twice, but Nichols and junior
Leah Sack each finished with a goal and an assist.
Kenyon will look to snap its four-game slide and earn its first North Coast Athletic Conference victory of the season Saturday when the College of Wooster visits Mavec Field at 2 p.m.
