GAMBIER, Ohio (April 22, 2012) Denison University dealt the Kenyon College softball team a pair of shutouts in North Coast Athletics Conference action Wednesday afternoon in Granville. Big Red pitchers keyed the 9-0 and 5-0 decisions by limiting the Ladies to five hits across the twinbill.
Becca Dyer fanned eight batters over five innings to pick up the victory in game one. Kenyon kept the game close through three innings, but the Denison (23-15, 8-6 NCAC) blew things open with an eight-run fourth. Kelsey Hager followed Dyer's lead in the nightcap with nine strikeouts in the complete game effort.
The only Lady immune to the offensive struggles was junior
Jamie Samuel. Samuel went 3-for-5 at the plate to raise her team- and NCAC-leading batting average to .468.
Kenyon (11-25, 3-11 NCAC) returns to action Thursday with a road doubleheader at the College of Mount St. Joseph beginning at 5:00 p.m.
