CARLISLE, Pa. (May 9, 2012) Both the Kenyon College and No. 11-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse teams stumbled through a rough opening patch of Wednesday's first round NCAA Tournament game. While Kenyon took a while to recover, Dickinson straightened things more quickly and ran away with a 15-6 home victory.
The loss for the Lords brings an end to their 2012 season and wraps up their record at 10-5. Dickinson, which improved to 15-3 with the win, moves on to the tournament's second round to face the winner of Wednesday evening's game between Cabrini College and Eastern University.
It seemed both teams were hesitant, if not nervous, as the first five minutes of Wednesday's game was marred with bad passes, failed clears, and dropped balls. Dickinson regrouped after some time and netted the only three goals of the first quarter. On the other side of the field, Kenyon managed just one shot in through the first 15 minutes of play.
The Red Devils scored once more before Kenyon was finally able to break through. The Lords got their first goal at the ten-minute mark of the second quarter. That's when sophomore Will Lowe came around the back of the Dickinson net and fired in an unassisted tally.
Lowe ended up scoring again in the third quarter, but by that time the Lords were facing a 6-2 deficit. Kenyon's Nick Alimam and Justin Coleman also scored in the third quarter, but those goals were countered by four straight from the Red Devils, who moved ahead 12-4 early in the fourth quarter.
Kenyon's final two goals came from Mackie Avis and Lowe. The three goals for Lowe gave him 21 on the season. They also boosted his team-best point total to 51 (21 goals, 30 assists).
Dickinson, which outshot Kenyon, 48-18, was led by three goals from both Christian Beitel and Bobby Kingsley.
