DELAWARE, Ohio – After a one-year absence, the Kenyon College volleyball team is back in postseason play. The Ladies earned that spot Wednesday night after defeating the host Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, in the final North Coast Athletic Conference contest of the season.

With the win, the Ladies eliminated Ohio Wesleyan from postseason contention and moved their own NCAC record to 2-6. That mark is good enough to place the Ladies into the conference's eight-team postseason tournament as the No. 7 seed. The tournament will be held November 8-9 at top-seeded Wittenberg University.

Kenyon, which had not tasted victory on the road all season, got off to a great start Wednesday. Back-to-back kills from senior Sierra DeLeon midway through the first set gave the Kenyon women a 12-7 lead. The Battling Bishops closed within 22-19 late in the set, but a kill from senior Mary Jo Scott got the Ladies back on track to close out the set.

In set two, Kenyon had to rally. Down 13-8, the Ladies rattled off four straight points, three of them with sophomore McKenzie Mitchell serving. The Ladies proceeded to tie the match at 16, 20, and 23. Scott then delivered twice more for the Ladies, racking up two straight kills and putting her Kenyon squad ahead two sets to none.

Ohio Wesleyan did not go away quietly. The Battling Bishops claimed the third set by breaking a 21-21 tie with a final 4-1 run. The hiccup didn't seem to faze the Ladies, who maintained a lead for the majority of the clinching fourth set. Kenyon built a five-point lead on six different occasions before Ohio Wesleyan applied a little pressure and closed to within two points at 20-18. DeLeon then halted the Battling Bishops' run with a kill and Scott closed them out with three more kills, including the match-winner.

Scott finished with a match-high and season-high 19 kills to go along with 15 digs. DeLeon was not far off, as she notched 16 kills. Like Scott, Hannah Shank also hit a season-high with 44 assists. She now has 602 assists on the season and ranks fourth all-time at Kenyon with 2,059 career assists. Mitchell added a team-high 21 digs and two aces.

Before the Ladies head into postseason play, they travel Saturday to Lexington, Kentucky to take part in a tri-match at Transylvania University.
