GAMBIER, Ohio  – The Kenyon College volleyball team performed in front of its largest crowd of the year against visiting DePauw University on Saturday afternoon. Sierra DeLeon led all players with 16 kills and helped energize the Ladies in mounting an exciting third-set win that looked to mount a momentum swing in the match. However, the Tigers quelled any attempt at a comeback in the fourth set to win the match, 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 21-25, 25-11).

DePauw (17-1, 4-0 NCAC) went on to take the first set easily, 25-15, and began the second in the same fashion by scoring the first four points out of the gate. Kenyon battled back to draw within two points of the Tigers, 16-14, and held their ground until the very end. Out of a timeout taken by DePauw, the Tigers' Elisabeth Wilson put down the final kill to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Facing elimination, Kenyon (0-14, 0-3 NCAC) rallied behind DeLeon's eight kills to take the third set, 25-21. She went 8-for-20 with only three errors in the set while adding three digs, defensively. After tying the game at 12 points each, Kenyon took possession of the lead and fended off the Tiger attack toward an energetic victory. The Ladies led by as many as six points at one time leading to Mary Jo Scott's kill to put the set win on ice.

The Tigers woke up in the fourth set and jumped out to a 10-1 start. DePauw hit a match-best .560 and did not commit an error in the frame. DePauw offensive leader Mary Kate Etling hit 5-for-6 with zero errors in the set. She finished with 14 kills and a .538 hit percentage on the day.

DeLeon concluded the match with 16 kills, leading all players for the match. Scott and Katie Goulder also posted double-digit kill counts, tallying 11 and 13, respectively. Scott's 11 digs helped her achieve a double-double.

McKenzie Mitchell led the Ladies with 20 digs from the libero spot. Hannah Shank put up 39 assists, one short of her season high (40) achieved against SUNY-Fredonia on Sept. 21.

DePauw came into the match as the final team to receive votes in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll.

Kenyon's next action will be in Claremont, Calif. where Pomona-Pitzer will host a two-day tournament on Oct.11-12. The Ladies will play host Pomona-Pitzer first on the 11th at 7 p.m.
