SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Much to the chagrin of the Kenyon College volleyball team, the Hiram College Terriers had their attack running at full steam in Friday's quarterfinal round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament held at Wittenberg University. The Terriers racked up an impressive .455 kill percentage and cruised to a 25-14, 25-28, 25-17 victory over the Ladies.

Kenyon, which entered the eight-team tournament as the No. 7 seed, managed a .021 kill percentage, which gave it little chance against the No. 2-seeded Terriers. The Ladies fell to 2-23 on the season and moved into the tournament's consolation bracket, where they will face The College of Wooster at 10 a.m. Saturday. Hiram, now 21-9, advances to the semifinals to play No. 3-seeded Denison University.

Hiram didn't waste any time in running out to leads of 8-2, 10-4, and 14-5 in Friday's first set.  The Terriers peppered the Ladies with 15 kills, while committing just two errors. Kenyon managed six kills and never got closer than six points the rest of the way.

In set two, Kenyon got off to a much better start. The Ladies knotted up the Terriers three times before taking an 8-7 lead on an ace from Kaitlyn Power. Sierra DeLeon then smacked down a kill to put the Ladies in front 9-7. The Terriers came back to tie things up at 12-12, but they couldn't shake the Ladies, who tied thing up at 14, 15, 16, and 17. From that point, the Kenyon women ran out of gas, committed five errors, and contributed to an 8-1 Hiram run that closed out the set.

Again, Kenyon started the third set on the right foot. Two kills from Bridget Murdoch gave the Ladies a 5-3 lead and two more kills from Mary Jo Scott pushed Kenyon ahead 8-4. And again, the Terriers came charging back to tie things up at 11, 12, and 13. Hiram then rattled off five straight and jumped ahead 18-13. Later, Scott threw down two more kills for Kenyon to close the Ladies' gap to 19-17, but Hiram scored the set's last six points to put Kenyon away.

Overall, Scott led the Ladies with ten kills, while DeLeon chipped in with six. McKenzie Mitchell had a team-best six digs and Hannah Shank delivered 25 assists.
