MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Freshman Trey Trudell scored three goals and assisted on another as the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team ended a brief two-game slide by defeating the Berry College Vikings, 10-6, Monday afternoon.
Trudell tossed in all three of his tallies within the game's first eight minutes. His outburst, combined with a
Nick Alimam to Phil Alimam goal, gave the Lords a 4-3 advantage after one quarter of play. Trudell then assisted
Will Lowe on the first goal of the second quarter, completing a four-point game for the first-year attack, who now has eight goals and two assists on the season.
Sophomore
Justin Coleman fired in two more goals in the second, leading to a 3-0 quarter and a 7-3 halftime lead for the Lords.
Kenyon (2-4) was not only scoring enough goals, but was dominant in face-offs and groundballs. Freshman Jared Jacobs won a remarkable 17-of-19 face-offs and the Lords constructed a huge 30-14 advantage in groundballs. Jacobs had eight of those ground balls and
Chris Pappalardo scooped up five.
Berry (3-3) later scored a pair of man-up goals in the second half, but the Vikings never got closer than three the rest of the way.
In addition to Trudell's three goals and Coleman's two, Phil Alimam scored twice and so did
Mackie Avis, who now has seven goals in his last three contests. Junior midfielder
Will Lowe added a goal and four assists to post a team-high five points.
In net, Kenyon went with freshman goalkeeper Patrick Shevelson, who chalked up his first collegiate start and win. He ended up making nine saves in 60 minutes of work.
