GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team could not get its offense to run at full throttle Saturday against the visiting Sewanee Tigers. While Kenyon struggled, Sewanee capitalized on the situation, scored three second-half goals, and eked out a 6-5 upset.

Sewanee (3-0) quickly showed Kenyon that it was ready to play. The Tigers used early goals from Pierce Leonard and Reed Daniel to build a 2-0 lead just six minutes into the game. Kenyon senior Chris Pappalardo returned fire and scored twice for the Lords, pushing the game into the second quarter with the teams tied, 2-2.

The Kenyon run continued with goals from Will Lowe and Trey Trudell. Nicky Lenard, who assisted on one of Pappalardo's first-quarter goals, set up Trudell's goal that gave Kenyon a 4-2 lead. Sewanee then wrapped up the first half of play with another goal from Leonard.

In the second half, Sewanee kept momentum on its side, scoring twice in the third quarter and once more in the fourth. Kenyon, which had yet to score a fourth-quarter goal this season, got one from Trudell. That score, set up by Pappalardo, pulled the Lords to within one goal of the Tigers with 3:39 still left in the game.

Those final minutes proved anticlimactic, however, as Kenyon took two penalties and all but killed off any hopes it had of tying the game up.

The Lords (1-3) will try to bounce back in their next game, which is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Franklin and Marshall College.
