GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day before Saturday's game with the visiting DePauw University Tigers. During the game,
Mackie Avis, one of the team's six seniors, rang up three goals and two assists while leading the Lords to a lopsided 23-1 victory.
The game was the last one on the Lords' regular-season schedule and it was the last one on McBride Field for the team's seniors. It was not, however, the last game of the year. The win put Kenyon (8-7, 4-3 NCAC) into four place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings and clinched the final berth in the conference's postseason tournament. The Lords will play their first-round game in Granville, Ohio against the top-seeded Denison University Big Red.
Avis wasn't the only one to have a big game against the Tigers (0-12, 0-6 NCAC). Junior
Zach Arlia put together four goals and an assist during the second half of play. Fellow juniors
Will Lowe and
Chris King added three-point games. Lowe had two goals and an assist, while King notched a goal and two assists. Freshman Phil Alimam tacked on three goals, while
Caleb Florence, Trey Trudell, and
Colin McMahon each scored twice.
Overall, the Kenyon men had a dozen different players account for one goal or more and a total of 14 players who tallied at least one point. The Lords out-shot the Tigers, 74-13, and held a 54-30 advantage in ground balls. The Kenyon men also scored three times in six man-up situations and owned the face-off battle, 21-6, with Jared Jacobs winning 14 times and Holden Richards winning all seven of his face-offs.
