WOOSTER, Ohio – The Kenyon College softball team swept Sunday's doubleheader from The College of Wooster and improved its overall record to 20-11, tying the program's mark for wins in a single season. Those latest two victories came by scores of 10-4 and 11-1 against the Fighting Scots.

The single-season wins record was first set by the 2006 Ladies, who finished with a 20-23 overall mark. In addition to reaching that milestone, this year's Ladies team is now eight games above the .500 mark with four games left in the regular season. They have assured themselves of a winning record for just the second time in the program's 16-year history.

Senior Jamie Samuel and sophomore Chelsea Delaney both played big parts in ringing up the wins at Wooster. Samuel, who has been absolutely lethal with the bat, went a combined 7-for-8 with two doubles, five runs scored, and three RBI. Since she moved into the No. 2 spot in the Ladies' batting order, Samuel has posted an astounding .698 batting average (30-for-43). She's only been put out once in each of the Ladies' last three doubleheaders. Her current season batting average now stands at .532.

While that is nearly an impossible act to follow, Delaney did her best. Batting third, right behind Samuel, Delaney was a combined 6-for-9 against Wooster. She scored two runs, had four RBI, and blasted her team-leading seventh home run of the season. That leaves her just one homer shy of the Kenyon record for long balls in a single season, which was set at eight by Carrie Robertson.

In game one, Kenyon scored one run in the top of the first inning and then moved ahead 3-1 after Toni Miller stroked a two-run double in the third. The Ladies added an unearned run in the fifth inning and then Samuel and Lindsey Susolik combined to plate three more runs in the sixth. With a 7-3 lead heading into the seventh inning, Kenyon scored its final runs on a two-run double from Maddy Stark and an RBI single from Susolik.

In game two, Kenyon didn't waste any time in going right after Wooster pitching again. In the top of the first, the Ladies sent ten batters to the plate and scored six runs. Miller, Liz Paterra, and Hayley Howard each had hits that scored two runs. Delaney blasted her solo home run in the second inning and three of the Ladies' final four runs were of the unearned variety.

Behind Samuel's and Delaney's big-time performances, Miller, Howard, Susolik, and Stark all had three hits on the day. Overall, the Ladies pummeled Wooster with 27 hits throughout the doubleheader.

Stark took on pitching duties in both games for Kenyon, which remained in second place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings with an 8-4 mark. After yielding 11 hits and four runs in game one, Stark gave up just one run on four hits in game two. She also notched a total of 11 strikeouts and improved her pitching record to 15-3, setting a new Kenyon standard for wins in a single-season. The previous record was 13 set by Stephanie Hemmingson.

The Ladies will finish off the regular season with home games against Denison University on Wednesday and DePauw University on Saturday.
