DELAWARE, Ohio – The Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team got off to a great start Friday night, scoring two early goals against Ohio Wesleyan University. The host Battling Bishops, however, regrouped quickly and put together a couple of multi-goal runs en route to a 12-8 North Coast Athletic Conference win.

The Lords, winners of their previous five contests, fell to 6-5 overall and 2-1 within NCAC play. Ohio Wesleyan, now with a four-game win streak, improved to 8-4 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference competition.

Kenyon drew first blood with goals from sophomores Nicky Lenard and Justin Coleman. Caleb Florence assisted on Lenard's goal and Lenard set up Coleman's with 9:07 showing on the first-quarter clock. Ohio Wesleyan got one of those goals back within the next 40 seconds of play and then blitzed Kenyon with three more scores to take a 4-2 lead into the early stages of the second quarter.

Midway through that second quarter, Kenyon rattled off two more tallies. Freshman Trey Trudell scored first and then Lenard added a man-up goal that knotted the game 4-4 at the 8:04 mark. Unfortunately for the Lords, the Battling Bishops had another strong response. This time around, Ohio Wesleyan scored the final four goals of the half and the first goal of the second half to move out to a 9-4 advantage.

That surge turned out to be the difference in the game. Although the Lords matched Ohio Wesleyan's four second-half goals, they never were able to cut their deficit to less than four. The Battling Bishops put the Kenyon defense and goalkeeper Patrick Shevelson to the test all game long. By the time the final horn sounded the Battling Bishops amassed 50 shots. Shevelson, a freshman, made a season- and career-high total of 14 saves.

At the offensive end, Lenard finished with three goals and an assist for Kenyon. Chris Pappalardo, Will Lowe, and Phil Alimam accounted for the rest of the Lords' second-half scoring, while sophomore Fritz Waine chipped in with two assists, one in each half.
