GAMBIER, Ohio  – The Kenyon College volleyball team opened his home schedule up with a familiar foe in the Muskingum University Muskies on Saturday, but met the same fate as their meeting earlier this season. Kenyon fell to 0-9 on the season after Muskingum delivered the Ladies a 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 20-25, 25-9) loss.

Though Mary Jo Scott served as the Ladies' offensive workhorse, Sierra DeLeon proved to be the most efficient after tying a career high in total kills with 20. She previously registered 20 kills last season against Allegheny College on Oct. 13.

Eight of DeLeon's kills came in the Ladies' third-set victory that kept them in the match. With both teams tied at 18 late in the third and the Ladies down two games to none, DeLeon took control and cranked out four kills and set up Hannah Shank to deliver the final blow with a service ace at the end to clinch the set, 25-20.

Despite staying alive with an impressive third-set win, the Ladies were unable to overcome a demoralizing loss in the opening set in which they lost a comfortable late lead. Kenyon built themselves a six-point cushion, 22-16, before relinquishing eight straight points to allow the Muskies to jump back out in front. Muskingum benefitted from three attack errors and a pair of blocked attempts at the net to grab the lead before Scott temporarily shifted the momentum with another kill to tie the game at 24 all. However, Muskingum's Katie Hunt and Hannah Rose blocked Katie Goulder's attempt to take the lead and eventually set up the come-from-behind win.

Muskingum finished off the match by hitting .467 as a team in the fourth set while Kenyon struggled offensively, leading to a 25-9 match-clinching score.
Scott led the team with 65 attempts but ended the day with just 13 kills. She achieved a double-double by complimenting that effort with 11 digs. McKenzie Mitchell led the team with 19 digs while Hannah Shank added 38 more assists to her season total.

Hannah Rose led the Muskies with 19 kills on 51 attempts and also added 10 digs. Heather Smith led all players with 20 digs. Muskingum also won the battle at the net posting six team blocks to Kenyon's two.

The two teams met earlier this season in the opening match of the Rose-Hulman Invitational on Sept. 7 when the Muskies took the match in five sets. In that match, DeLeon also led the Ladies' offense  with 14 kills.

The Ladies will go back to work on Sept. 21 in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener at Hiram as part of a tri-match with Fredonia State University. The Ladies will take on the Terriers first at 1 p.m. before playing Fredonia State at 3 p.m.
