ASHLAND, Va. – Meeting former Kenyon College assistant coach Bob Dignazio and his second-year Beloit College program gave the Kenyon men's lacrosse team a chance to dig deep into its roster Tuesday afternoon at Randolph-Macon College. Lords' head coach
Doug Misarti, who walked the sidelines with Dignazio for two seasons, did just that as he shuttled 32 Lords on and off the field during a 15-4 win.
The more experienced Kenyon team got two goals apiece from seniors
Zach Arlia and
Caleb Florence, as well as from junior
Fritz Waine and freshman
Justin Rorem. Florence also had two assists to lead the Lords with four points, while Arlia tacked on one assist,
Pat Kim added one goal and two assists, and
Nick Lenard finished with one goal and one assist. With ample time to get reserves into the game,
Bennett Mosseau joined classmate Rorem in registering his first collegiate goal.
Kenyon junior
Jack Fraser, who's taken over faceoff duties for the last three games, won 10-of-14 against Beloit. Senior
Dan Muller got in the mix, too. He won 4-of-7 faceoffs and scored his first goal of the season.
Kenyon's regular starting goalkeeper,
Patrick Shevelson, played the first three quarters and made three saves. Freshmen
Michael Duffy and
Gabriel Avis then shared time in front of the net in the fourth quarter and combined for five more saves.
The Lords opened Tuesday's contest with a 2-1 lead after one quarter and then went on to score the next eight goals. Kenyon leads grew to 7-1 at halftime and 10-2 after three quarters of play.
Overall, Kenyon out-shot Beloit 50-25, won the groundball battle 29-13, and held the Buccaneers scoreless in eight extra-man opportunities.
Dignazio, a 2008 Kenyon graduate, was a two-time All-NCAC defenseman for the Lords. He returned to campus in 2010 and spent two seasons on Misarti's staff before leaving to start up the Beloit program in 2012.
