GAMBIER, Ohio – Eleven different Lords scored and 14 tallied at least one point Saturday while the Kenyon lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a 19-4 trouncing of the Hiram College Terriers in North Coast Athletic Conference action at McBride Field.
After a pre-game presentation, all five Kenyon seniors got the nod to start against the Terriers and all five made a mark.
Zach Arlia and
Caleb Florence led the group, both scoring two goals and dishing out one assist.
Dan Muller added two more goals, won 13-of-24 face-offs, and scooped up six groundballs. On the defensive front,
Brendan Casey and
Victor Progar each registered a caused turnover and helped hold Hiram to just four goals on 20 shots.
The victory moved Kenyon's overall record to 8-5 and its conference record 3-2. It was the 31st win for the group of five seniors who've stuck with the program for four seasons. On the other side of the field, Hiram, a first-year program, fell to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in the NCAC.
The Lords didn't waste any time in taking it to the Terriers.
Pat Kim, Muller, and
Andrew Weinert each scored goals before five minutes flashed off the clock. Florence added two before the quarter ended, Muller tacked on another, and Arlia notched his first of two to give the Lords a 7-0 lead.
Nick Lenard scored twice in the second quarter and was followed by goals from Kim,
Fritz Waine, and
Alex Lopez. That gave Kenyon a 12-0 lead at the half and made plenty of room for head coach
Doug Misarti to get his reserves into the game. Before the final horn sounded, 32 Lords logged playing time.
Kim and Weinert both ended up matching Arlia and Florence with two goals and an assist. Lopez had three goals, and
Robert Jacobs tacked on a goal and two assists.
In front of the Kenyon goal, sophomore
Patrick Shevelson made five saves and shut out the Terriers through 30 minutes of play.
Gabriel Avis and
Michael Duffy shared time in the second half and polished off the game for the Lords, who ended up out-shooting Hiram, 50-20.
Kenyon has one final home game left on its schedule and that will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. against The College of Wooster.
