DELAWARE,  Ohio – For the second straight season, the Kenyon College Lords were one of just four lacrosse teams to make the North Coast Athletic Conference postseason tournament. The Lords, however, were also eliminated in the tournament's semifinal round for the second straight season.

Wednesday night, the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, the No. 2-seeded team in the tournament, played lock-down defense and delivered a 13-4 defeat to Kenyon, the No. 3-seeded team in the tournament. It was quite a contrast to the teams' tight regular-season meeting in which Ohio Wesleyan outlasted the Lords, 9-8, in double-overtime.

The Battling Bishops stepped on the gas pedal from the word go and never looked back. John Umbach scored two of Ohio Wesleyan's first four goals, which all found Kenyon twine within the first seven minutes of the game. Kenyon junior Justin Coleman stopped the bleeding with the Lords' first goal at the 5:55 mark of the first quarter, but the Battling Bishops continued to blitz the Kenyon zone and scored five more times in the second quarter, including four more from Umbach, to take 9-1 lead into halftime.

Umbach, the NCAC's leading goal-scorer, ended up with six goals in the half, giving him 43 for the season. He gave way to four different OWU goal-scorers in the second half as the Battling Bishop maintained their large lead.

Meanwhile, the Ohio Wesleyan defense forced 26 Kenyon turnovers and held the Lords to a total of 24 shots, only half of which were on goal.

Coleman managed to break through the OWU defense two more times in the second half to account for three of the Lords' four goals, but the Kenyon men never got closer than nine goals throughout the final 30 minutes of play. Coleman's classmate, Fritz Waine, threw in the Lords' final goal with six seconds left in the game.

The loss brings an end to Kenyon's season with an overall record of 9-7. Ohio Wesleyan improved to 12-3 and now moves on to play Denison University in the NCAC Tournament final.
