GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College men's lacrosse team extended its streak of one-goal games to four on Saturday afternoon at McBride Field. This time, however, the final outcome did not favor the Lords, who dropped a 9-8 double-overtime decision to the visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops.

Prior to Saturday's game, the Lords, now 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, won three straight contests by one goal each. That flair for the dramatic carried over Saturday, but the Battling Bishops terminated Kenyon's win streak by getting a goal from Kyle Foster with 29 seconds remaining in the second overtime period. The win improved Ohio Wesleyan's records to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC.

The Lords took control early and built leads of 2-1 after one quarter and 6-3 after two quarters. Two of those six goals came in man-up situations and saw the same pairing of junior Pat Kim on the assist and senior Caleb Florence on the goal. Florence also scored Kenyon's first goal of the game and finished the day with three.

With things knotted up at 2-2, Kenyon senior Zach Arlia turned in a spectacular goal. From behind the net, sophomore Trey Trudell fed Arlia with a quick pass. Arlia, who was running to his left, snared the pass on the run, and flipped a behind-the-back shot past Ohio Wesleyan goalkeeper Ryan McMahon. That highlight-reel play gave Kenyon an extra boost of energy and the Lords went on to score three of the game's next four goals.

About mid-way through the third quarter, things began to change. The Battling Bishops showed more urgency on offense and peppered the Kenyon cage with shots. The surge led to five straight Ohio Wesleyan goals and an 8-7 lead for the visiting team.

Kenyon put an end to the Ohio Wesleyan run when Alex Lopez scored the equalizer with 2:09 left in regulation. Kenyon did get one more shot off before the fourth-quarter horn sounded, but it was off target, sending the game into overtime.

Because of an Ohio Wesleyan penalty late in the fourth quarter, the Lords maintained possession at the start of the first overtime. Trying to put things away, they unleashed four shots in the first overtime, but all four were off the mark. Ohio Wesleyan countered with just one shot. It was on target and Kenyon goalkeeper Patrick Shevelson was in position to make the save, which was one of 15 made throughout the contest.

In the second overtime, Kenyon again fired first, but McMahon stopped it. After the teams traded a couple turnovers, McMahon scooped up a groundball and delivered the ball into the Kenyon zone. The Battling Bishops then called timeout and set up their offense. Ohio Wesleyan's initial attempt after the break sailed wide, but 30 seconds later Foster tossed in the game-winner off an assist from Casey Helms. Foster ended up with two goals for the game, while Helms had three assists. Tommy Minkler matched Florence's total and led the Battling Bishops with three tallies.

The road ahead doesn't get any easier for the Lords, who will next head to Granville, Ohio on Wednesday night to battle rival Denison University, a team that is 11-0 and ranked No. 5 in the nation.
