GRANVILLE, Ohio – From beginning to end, Denison University held a strong hand on the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team in Wednesday night's matchup. The nationally-ranked Big Red remains undefeated on the season after overpowering the Lords, 23-2.
Denison (12-0, 4-0 NCAC) came into the match ranked fourth in NCAA Division III and showed why with its smothering defense and overwhelming offense. The Lords were held without a shot in the first quarter while the Big Red connected on seven of its 10 attempts at the net. Two of their goals came a man up after an unreleasable penalty cost the Lords a pair.
Kenyon (7-5, 2-2 NCAC) was unable to stop the bleeding after Denison continued to score at will in the second quarter. The Big Red scored six more times before the end of the half, outshooting the Lords 14-3 in the stanza.
The Lords were unable to score until the fourth quarter when Justin Coleman broke a streak of 19 consecutive goals with his eighth of the season. Less than one minute later, sophomore Alec Foresta scored his first goal of the season and second of his career.
Twelve different members of the Big Red squad found the back of the net, led by a trio with three goals each. Luke Walsh, Blair Farinholt, and James Meager all scored thrice while four more scored twice. Walsh and Chapin Speidel each posted five points each.
Kenyon will regroup for a pair of home contests over the next week. The Lords host Hiram College on April 12 at 1 p.m. and The College of Wooster on April 16. Their matchup with the Terriers marks also Senior Day where the team will honor five members of the Class of 2014.
