the John Carroll University Invitational today.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Kenyon College volleyball team closed out the John Carroll University Invitational today falling in four sets to the College of Mount St. Joseph and in three sets to JCU.

In the Ladies' first match of the day against MSJ, Lauren Kerr and Amber Kraus led the way with nine kills each in a highly-competitive match.

The first set saw the Lions jump out to a quick 7-2 lead before Kenyon battled back. Kraus' second kill of the match pulled the score to 9-8 Mount St. Joseph. Kenyon remained within two points of the Lions for the rest of the set but eventually fell 25-21.

The Ladies took set two and led by as many as six points (15-9). MSJ pulled within three (21-18) after an Emily Bostian kill but that was the closest the Lions got.

In set three, the Ladies were down early but climbed back to tie the set at 13 after Hannah Shank assisted Kerr for a kill. But the rally was short-lived as Mount St. Joseph earned a point on a service error after the tying kill and didn't relinquish the lead after that.

After an early struggle in set four, MSJ reeled off a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead. Kenyon pulled to within three a few instances during the final set but could never come back as the Lions claimed set four, 25-17.

John Carroll ended any hope of a Ladies' victory at the JCU Invitational winning convincingly in three sets.

The Blue Streaks won by scores of 25-18, 25-6, and 25-13. JCU held the Ladies to a -0.30 hitting percentage in the game.

Tierney McClure led Kenyon with five kills while Shank dished out six assists. Rachael Thorson tied for the match-high with 19 digs.

In set one, Kenyon held an early 7-6 lead after a Blue Streaks attack error. But that lead wouldn't be held for long as two straight points from JCU gave the home team a slim advantage that wasn't given up.

Set two saw John Carroll open up a 19-3 lead in route to a 2-0 advantage before claiming set three by a 25-13 count.

The Ladies will be back in action September 20 when they welcome Hiram College and Otterbein University for a pair of matches at Tomsich Arena.
