Tierney McClure totaled 15 kills and 27 digs in two matches today at the Marietta
College River City Classic. The Ladies fell in three sets to Marietta and Heidelberg.MARIETTA, Ohio – Kenyon College closed out the Marietta College River City Classic falling in three sets to the host school and Heidelberg University today.
In the first match against Marietta,
Lauren Kerr and
Tierney McClure each tallied nine kills to lead the Ladies. McClure added a team-high 15 digs to pace the defense.
Hannah Shank and
Jensen Shurbert both handed out 14 assists.
The Ladies held a 17-11 lead in the first set after a Kerr kill but Marietta rallied back. The Pioneers closed on a 14-3 run as Shauntiel Oliver-Smith contributed four kills in the run.
In the second set, the Ladies held an early advantage (3-1) before an attack error gave the Pioneers a 5-4 lead. Marietta would lead by as many as seven points (20-13) before capturing a 25-19 second-set win.
Alexandra Hansen gave Kenyon a 10-9 lead in the third set but it would be their last advantage of the day. Chloe Janson's kill moved Marietta in front 11-10 and they would maintain a lead the rest of the way.
Four straight points for the Ladies brought the score to 23-21 late in the set, but they weren't able to close the gap all the way falling 25-21.
In Kenyon's second match of the day, Heidelberg would claim a three-set win by scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-17.
Kerr totaled a team-high eight kills. McClure added six kills and a team-high 12 digs. Kenyon hit just .074 for the match.
Rachael Thorson tallied nine digs while Hansen added eight. Shurbert handed out 12 assists and Shank added 11. Shurbert also had two service aces.
The Ladies will visit No. 6 Wittenberg September 30 for a 7 p.m. match.
