For the second time in as many seasons, the Lords lacrosse team will take on
Ohio Wesleyan University in the NCAC Tournament semifinal round.NCAC TOURNAMENT SITEGAMBIER, Ohio – For the third time in the past three seasons, the Kenyon College Lords lacrosse team is one of four squads to earn a berth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The tournament, which gets underway Wednesday, has Kenyon traveling to Ohio Wesleyan University for a 7 p.m. game with the Battling Bishops.
Kenyon enters postseason play as the tournament's No. 4 seed with a 9-6 overall record and a 5-3 record within NCAC play. Ohio Wesleyan is the tournament's top-seeded team and ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation according to recent polls released by the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and Lacrosse Magazine. The Battling Bishops have a 14-0 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the NCAC.
Earlier this year, Kenyon gave the Battling Bishops all they could handle. In that game, which was held at McBride Field on March 21, the Lords led 3-1 after one quarter of play, 5-3 at halftime, and 6-5 after three quarters. A couple of mental mistakes tripped the Lords up in the final quarter and Ohio Wesleyan, ranked No. 8 at the time, escaped with a 10-7 victory.
The win was Ohio Wesleyan's fourth straight over the Lords, who last defeated the Battling Bishops in the 2012 season. Overall, Ohio Wesleyan holds a commanding 30-3 all-time series record against the Lords.
These same two teams matched up in last season's NCAC semifinal and the Battling Bishops came away with a 13-4 win. John Umbach, now a senior attack for OWU, had six goals in that contest. Midfielder
Justin Coleman, also a senior this season, led the Lords with three goals.
This year's other NCAC semifinal contest pits No. 2-seeded Denison University against No. 3-seed Wittenberg University. That contest will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Granville, Ohio. The two semifinal winners will then meet on the home turf of the highest remaining seed for Saturday's tournament final.     Â
Semifinal ticket prices are set at $5 for adults and $3 for students and children 18 and under. Students bearing an ID from an NCAC institution will be admitted free of charge. There will be no re-entry and no containers are permitted at Selby Stadium.
