GAMBIER, Ohio – For the seventh time in the last eight seasons, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team earned a berth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Lords' 2019 postseason slate begins with a semifinal game at Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Kenyon enters the tournament with an 11-5 overall record. The Lords were 6-2 in conference play and are the No. 3 seed in the four-team field. Ohio Wesleyan, the tournament's No. 2 seed, owns a 10-7 overall record and a 7-1 mark in NCAC action.
Thursday's other semifinal contest pits No. 1-seeded Denison University (14-2, 8-0 NCAC) against No. 4 seed The College of Wooster (7-10, 5-3 NCAC). The winners of the semifinals will play in Sunday's championship match, which will be held on the site of the highest remaining seed.
Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan previously met this season on March 23 at McBride Field. The visiting Battling Bishops controlled the first half and took a 10-1 lead into halftime. The second half was played more evenly, but the host Lords could not compensate for the poor start and were defeated, 17-7.
That win was Ohio Wesleyan's 10th straight over Kenyon, dating back to the 2013 season. Included in that run were three wins against the Lords in NCAC Tournament play. The last time the two teams met in the postseason was in 2016. Ohio Wesleyan, nationally ranked No. 15 at the time, held on to defeat Kenyon 8-4.
This time around, the Battling Bishops carry a scoring average of 17.8 goals per game while allowing an average of 12.1 to opponents. Kenyon owns a 14.6 scoring average and allows its competition an average of just 9.1 goals per contest.
Please note that upon entering Selby Stadium for Thursday's game, tickets will be $7 for adults and $3 for children (18 and under). NCAC students who present a proper NCAC institution ID will be admitted free of charge.
