Tartans fend off Lords in Florida

RESULTS

ORLANDO, FL – Before rain stopped the final two singles matches, Carnegie Mellon University took two of three doubles matches and three of four singles matches to defeat the Kenyon College men's tennis team, 5-2. The Tartans moved to 5-4 while the Lords fell to 3-3.

Carnegie started the match off with a win at the No. 3 doubles spot as Sam Gibson and Jonathan Nottingham defeated Matias Mauviel and Angelo Vidal, 8-1. The Tartans grabbed their next point as the No. 2 duo of Jaden D'Abreo and Michael Fourchy beat Christophe Leblanc and Christian Picot by a score of 8-4. Luis Andres Platas and Thomas Kallarakal salvaged a point in the top doubles spot. The Kenyon pair defeated Raahil Doshi and Matthew Poh, 8-2.

Holding a 2-1 match advantage, Carnegie earned a quick point in No. 1 singles as Brandon April defeated Platas, 6-3, 6-3. In No. 4 singles, Gibson and Eric Zhang played a close first set, 7-5 in favor of Gibson, but Gibson put Zhang away with a 6-0 set two, moving the Tartans within one point of taking the match.

Kenyon won their lone singles point of the day as Kallarakal defeated Doshi in No.3 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Carnegie clinched the match win in the No. 6 singles as William Wang bested Jack Wagner, 6-2, 6-0.

In the remaining singles matches, Rishil Kondapaneni held a one set advantage and led the second set 3-2 over Nadim Motaghedi before rain stopped the match. At the same time, Rakan Audeh and Nicholas Wernink were tied at a set apiece in the No. 5 singles match. Audeh took the first set 6-2 before Wernink won the second 6-4. The two matches will not be finished.

Kenyon takes a few days off before taking on Wesleyan University on Friday at the USTA National Campus.
