WESTFIELD CENTER, Ohio -- Through two rounds of the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship, the Kenyon College Owls find themselves tied for third place in the eight-team tournament.
Kenyon finished the second of three days in the same spot they entered round two: looking up at Wittenberg University and Denison University in the standings. However, the Owls lost a little ground on the Championship's penultimate day as The College of Wooster closed the one-stroke margin with the Owls to move into a tie for third place.
The Owls shaved three strokes off their round-one score, scoring a 299 (+19) in round two at the 6,733-yard, par-70 North Course at Westfield Country Club. Kenyon and Wooster have tallied a two-round total of 601, behind Denison's 592 mark and Wittenberg's 581 total.
Griffin Ward paced the Owls on day two, shooting a 74 (+4). After bettering his round-one total of 75, Ward is tied for 10th in the individual standings with a total of 150. Will Hulsey, who shot a 75 for the second straight round, is tied with Ward for the team lead through two rounds.
Logan Spiess matched Hulsey's 75 in round two and is tied for 13th after a 76 in round one. Garrett Thesing and Armand Ouellette round out the Owls' scoring, and both are tied for 19th with totals of 153. Ouellette shot a 78 today after tying for the team lead with 75 on day one, while Thesing shot a 75 after a 78-stroke opening round.
Spiess led the Owls with four round-two birdies, but six bogies and one triple lowered his output. Ward notched two birdies while Thesing carded one.
Kenyon's tee times range from 1:21 to 1:57 for round three, which starts Sunday, April 30, at noon.
