Ouellette leads Owls to Kravetz Invitational title

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Kenyon College junior Armand Ouellette fired a two-over 72 on Saturday, claimed medalist honors in a field of 30 golfers and helped the Owls win the Fred Kravetz Invitational, which was hosted by University of Rochester.

The Invitational was originally scheduled for two rounds, but Friday's round was canceled due to rain. The competition was narrowed to just one round that took place at Oak Hill Country Club, a par-70, 6,601-yard course.

Kenyon topped the six-team field by posting a team score of 300. Gettysburg College was second with a score of 306 and Denison University was third, tallying 307 strokes. Host Rochester finished fourth at 312.

Ouellette bogeyed the third hole, going out with a one-over score of 36 on the front nine. On the back nine, he bogeyed 13 and 17, but finished with a birdie on the par-3 18th hole to finalize his winning score at 72.

On the individual leaderboard, Ouellette held off a pair of teammates to take sole possession of first place. Two strokes behind him, in second place, was senior Garrett Thesing. His score of 74 included five bogies and one birdie. One stroke back and tied for third place was first-year Jonathan Oakes. He landed on a 75 with a scorecard showing one double bogey, seven bogeys and four birdies.

Kenyon's fourth scoring golfer was first-year Jaiden Koonar, who carded a nine-over 79 and just squeaked ahead of teammate and sophomore Will Hulsey, who put up an 80. Koonar finished tied for 15th and Hulsey finished 20th.
