Owls finish fifth at Fighting Scots Invitational

WOOSTER, Ohio – For the second weekend in a row, the Kenyon College women's track and field team travelled to the Scot Center at The College of Wooster, this weekend for the team's third event of the season, the Fighting Scots Invitational.

After snagging one event win and several top-five finishes, the Owls amassed 59 total points for the afternoon, putting them fifth out of the six team field.

Kenyon's sole event winner was first-year Ariella Sobel, who took the top spot in the 400-meter after winning the same event one week ago on the same track. She made the lap in 1:01.32, beating her time from last week and besting the field by nearly four seconds. Sobel also took home fourth in the 200-meter, tacking on five points to the team's total and finishing in 27.57 seconds.

Anna Brown took second in the mile after being named as the North Coast Athletic Conference's (NCAC) Athlete of the Week for her 800-meter victory last week. The junior finished at 5:27.65, just under two seconds behind the first-place finisher, and grabbed eight points. Olivia Ide took fifth in the same race, not far behind Brown with a 5:32.92 time, good enough for four points.

In the sprints, Talulla Sheridan leapt and ran to a speedy 10.39 time in the 60-meter hurdles, taking fifth and bringing in four points. Addilyn Tober also picked up points with her seventh-place, 11.27-second finish.

Isabella Roach took fifth in the 60-meter dash, flying to a 8.92 time and also earning four points while Grace Sparks scored on a 9.55-second eighth place time.

Backing up the distance, Lucie Prior rounded out Kenyon's top-five finishes in the 800-meter, completing her two laps in 2:37.37, taking fifth place and four points in the process.

In the field, the Owls took home two top-five finishes. Olivia Gumz took third in the high jump, clearing a 1.4-meter (4-7) bar on her second attempt and tallying six points.

Penelope Artemis backed up a strong showing last week with a fourth-place effort in the shot put, as her fourth attempt soared 11.27 meters (37-0).

Case Western Reserve took first in the meet with 173 points. Up next was Denison (94), while Wooster and Oberlin (69) tied for third. Kenyon slotted into fourth with 59 points, while WVU Tech was sixth with 14.

Next up, Kenyon will participate in the Steemer Showcase on Saturday, February 1 at Wittenberg University.
