Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Kenyon falls to Wittenberg in overtime

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College field hockey team wrapped up the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon, playing in a pivotal game against Wittenberg University to decide which team moves on to the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) playoffs.

After battling to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation, the game headed to extra time. Although the Owls registered several chances in the overtime period, the Tigers capitalized on its lone opportunity to take the game 2-1 and head to the postseason.

Wittenberg opened the scoring in the second period, but it was Kenyon who had the best chances early on in the contest. Just two minutes into the game, Maren Lawrence threatened from mid-range with a nice backhand shot.

Four minutes later, the Owls gained the game's first corner resulting in the best chance of the half. A slick passing play from the inserting Rigby Zentner and Lawrence left Henny Maher wide open in front of the net, but the Wittenberg keeper came sliding in at the last second to turn it away.

Kenyon added one more shot in the second quarter, but the Tigers took an early lead with less than a minute to play on a low angle shot that just made it through the legs of Sofia Chaves. Although trailing after 30 minutes, the game was deadlocked at four shots and two corners apiece.

In the final three minutes of the third, the Owls broke the tie on what was the team's only shot on goal of the frame. Alexandra Dineen raced down the ball after a broken corner and flipped a pass through the Wittenberg defense to find Maher, who went between the legs and off a Wittenberg defender right to Ella Adamec, who crashed the net after inserting on the corner for the easy score, her second of the season.

After an action packed fourth quarter that saw three shots on goal for Kenyon but none in the back of the net, the game headed to overtime. The Owls dominated the seven on seven overtime frame early on, tilting the field for five total shots to the Tigers none. Shots from Casey Master, Olivia Wangerow, Lawrence and Maher all were close but did not connect.

Wittenberg got possession back after the barrage of Kenyon chances and drove down the heart of the field. Alexis Vazquez led the charge and threaded a perfect pass to Maddy Krasnow, who placed her shot just out of reach and into the bottom right corner of the net for the game winning goal, sending the Tigers to the NCAC playoffs.

Kenyon outshot the visitors 16-7 for the game and held a 7-3 edge in corners. Lawrence led the team with five shots, while Maher chipped in with four and Master added three. Chaves made two saves in net.

The Owls' record ends at 5-11 overall and 5-4 in conference.
