Owls take two wins, finish seventh at All-Ohio

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Kenyon College women's track and field team churned out two wins from two of its usual top performers on Saturday afternoon as the team competed in the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University.

Paula Soric and Anna Brown each won one event as the Owls amassed 44 points and finished seventh out of 15 teams.

Soric's win came in her signature event, the triple jump. On her first attempt, she leapt to a 11.24-meter (36-10.5) mark that beat the second place finisher by over half of a meter. Although her other attempts were fouls, it did not matter as Soric secured 10 points for her win. She also competed in the long jump, where she took sixth with a 5.22-meter (17-1.5) score.

On the track, Brown sped her way to a win in the one-mile in record-setting fashion. Her 5:11.47 time was a new personal best by over six seconds, as the speedy finish locked up 10 more points for Kenyon. Not done there, she also got second in the 800-meter, in which she finished her two laps in 2:19.33 for eight more points.

The Owls' next best finishes of the day came from Ariella Sobel and Olivia Ide. Sobel took home fourth place in the 400-meter, speeding to a 1:01.15 lap and earning five points. Ide also added five with a fourth place finish in the 3000-meter, as the sophomore ran a 10:43.01 race.

Also earning points for Kenyon was Hannah Gross, who in the first individual event of the afternoon took sixth in the 5000-meter race, firing a 20:22.21 time and earning three points.

In the 4000 distance medley relay, the team of Rigby Zentner, Addi Tober, Sasha Langholm and Isabel Prosnitz just missed out on points for their 14:14.69 ninth place finish.

Mount Union took home the top spot with 108.50 points, while Ohio Wesleyan (89), Case Western (77), Baldwin Wallace (69) and John Carroll (63) rounded out the top five.

Kenyon's next event will be the Kenyon Tune Up hosted at Toan Indoor Track in the Lowry Center on Friday, February 21 at 4:30 pm.
