Owls turn in top times during home meet

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Owen Rodstrom and Noah Hopkins were the top finishers for the Owls track and field team during Friday evening's annual Kenyon Tune-Up, a three-team unscored meet held at Barrett A. Toan Indoor Track inside the Lowry Center.

Rodstrom, a junior, was the top finisher in the 800-meter race. He clocked in at 2:02.06, which was not only a season-best, but a collegiate-best mark. Right behind him were two Kenyon first-years and another junior. Dylan Ryznar generated a second-place time of 2:03.94, Jackson Adams was third in 2:05.65 and Jimmy Baker crossed the line in 2:05.78, which was his collegiate-best.

In the 3,000-meter race, Hopkins, another junior, won the race for Kenyon with a time of 9:30.05. He headed up an Owls trio that claimed the top three spots. Sophomore Theo Hordon was second in 9:31.51 and senior Alex Shepherd was third with a collegiate-best time of 9:35.24.

Success in distance events spilled into the 1,000-meter race, an event in which senior William Wilson took the runner-up spot by finishing in 2:39.54, which was good for another personal collegiate-best.

In relays, the Owls sprinted to a first-place showing in the 4x200-meter. Emmanuel Makelele, Satchel Barnes, Richard Grooms, and Ezekiel Kiwanuka teamed up for a time of 1:34.78. In the meet-ending 4x400-meter relay, Wilson, Ryznar, Adams, and Baker turned in a 3:44.28, which was good for second place.

Earlier in the meet, Makelele notched a third-place showing in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.18.

In field events, Kiwanuka, a junior, was Kenyon's most impressive. He nailed down second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. His long jump covered 20-3 ½ (6.18 meters) and his triple jump measured 38-9 (11.81 meters).
