Akin earns season’s first NCAC weekly award

CLEVELAND -- Kenyon College first-year Izzy Akin got her collegiate career started off on the right foot. Tuesday, the Owls softball player was declared the North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Akin's award was based on her performances in Kenyon's doubleheader sweep of Gallaudet University on Sunday, March 2. In the first of those two games, Akin pitched just one inning of relief, but struck out all three batters she faced. In game two, Akin came on in relief with two outs in the first inning. She went the rest of the way without giving up a hit or walk, and she fanned nine.

Overall, Akin's Sunday stat line included five-and-a-third innings pitched, no runs, no hits, and no walks. She faced 16 batters and struck out 12 of them.
