DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Kenyon College men's track and field team took a trip to Ohio Wesleyan University for the second straight weekend as the Owls took on the outdoor All-Ohio Championship. Kenyon tallied two bronze-medal finishes and orchestrated eight top-eight showings, scoring 29 points to take 10th in the 14-team field.
Much like last weekend in Delaware, Kenyon's distance and mid-distance runners led the way. The two-day meet started with a pair of longer events on Friday evening, the 10,000-meter race and 3,000-meter steeplechase, and the Owls scored well in both. Kenyon runners combined for 14 points over the two events and finished Friday night in fourth place.
The 3,000-meter steeplechase was Kenyon's best event of the Championship as Owls placed third, sixth, and seventh. Owen Rodstrom ran the fastest race, clocking in at 9:40.36 to secure a spot on the podium. The third-place finish was good for six points, and the time was a career-best for the junior and a season-best for Kenyon. Two other Owls finished back-to-back a little further back as Peter Bernhardt and Colt Murphy finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Bernhardt stopped the clock at 9:50.79, and Murphy's 9:51.91 mark was a career-best for the junior.
Another junior, Joshua Breard, also got in on Friday's scoring. The junior placed sixth in the 10,000-meter at 32:30.96, a career-best that also marked a season-best for the Owls.
Kenyon's success in distance/mid-distance events extended into Saturday when Charlie Blackmer scored points in two such races. The first-year finalized a bronze-medal finish in the 800-meter race, crossing third at 1:56.28. In the 1,500-meter race, Blackmer's time of 4:01.34 was good for eighth. Both marks were season-bests for both Blackmer and the Owls.
The Owls scored points in two other events, both of which were throws. Graham Yeager placed fourth in the discus, where his best toss traveled 43.70 meters (143-4). The first-year's mark was another season-best for both him and the Owls. In the javelin, junior J'Sun Gardner scored with a sixth-place showing. His furthest throw landed 46.30 meters (151-11) out, another season-best for the Owls and a career-best for Gardner.
After back-to-back weekends in Delaware, the Owls will return home to host the Duane Gomez Invitational in Gambier on Saturday, April 19. The home meet is set to start at 10 a.m.
