First-years highlight Kenyon results at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- Some members of the Kenyon College men's track and field team competed in Friday's Big Red Invitational at Denison University. Although no team scores were kept, the Owls managed eight top-10 individual finishes.

First-year Graham Yeager headlined the Kenyon results with a first-place showing in the discus and a sixth-place spot in the hammer throw. His best attempt in the discus traveled a distance of 143-6 (43.74 meters). In the hammer, he turned in a measurement of 125-3 (38.18 meters), which was a personal best.

Another Kenyon first-year, JT Casarico, had a top-10 finish in the long jump. He covered 17-9 (38.18 meters) to take over ninth place.

In track events, the 1,500-meter race was the Owls' most productive, with three runners claiming top-10 finishes. Heading up that group was Charlie Menzel, another member of the team's first-year class. He crossed the finish line in 4:10.33 for fourth place and smashed his previous personal-best of 4:22.52. Junior Jimmy Baker also hit a personal-best, taking seventh place (4:14.66) in the same race, while first-year Caleb Low rounded out the Kenyon results with a ninth-place run (4:17.86).

Kudzaishe Mhere, also a first-year, gave Kenyon a fifth-place effort in the 400-meter dash. His trip around the oval took 51.69 seconds. A couple of events later, Dylan Ryznar, yet another first-year, clocked in a 2:00.80 to nail down sixth place in the 800-meter run.

Finally, matching Ryznar's sixth-place finish, Kenyon junior Sam Rabieh ran the 3,000-meter run in 9:24.55.

The meet marked Kenyon's last competition before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, which will take place next weekend at DePauw University.
