GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's track and field team closed the book on its outdoor regular season on Friday afternoon when a small contingent of Owls went down to Granville, Ohio, to compete in Denison University's Big Red Invitational. Kenyon competed in eight of the unscored meet's 18 events, and Owls individuals combined to compile three podium-worthy placements, including a second-place showing and two third-place finishes.
Noa Helmbrecht continued her strong first-year campaign and whipped up Kenyon's best finish of the meet. The first-year finished second in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 13.00 seconds flat. She nearly won the 12-runner race, but her time was 0.05 seconds behind the top finisher.
Kenyon's other podium-worthy showing both came in throwing events. In the javelin, sophomore Alessandra Murray placed third with a 28.49-meter (93-5) throw. In the shot put, first-year Penelope Artemis posted an 11.15-meter (36-7) hurl, good for a bronze-medal performance. Artemis also threw in the hammer throw, placing eighth at 37.32 meters (122-5).
Back on the track, Olivia Ide had a good outing in the lengthy, 17-runner field that comprised the 1,500-meter race. The sophomore stopped the clock at 5:06.47, good for fourth place. Cassidy Kaler ran the team's other distance race, placing fifth in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 12:53.97. Grace Sparks rounded out Kenyon's competitors as the junior competed in a pair of races. Sparks finished the 400-meter race in sixth after clocking in with a career-best time of 1:14.31. In the 200-meter dash, she placed 12th with a season-best time of 31.00 seconds.
With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Owls will look ahead to the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Outdoor Championship. The two-day meet hosted by DePauw University starts next Friday, May 2, in Greencastle, Indiana.
