PENFIELD, N.Y. – The Kenyon College men's golf team teed it up in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships on Tuesday morning from Midvale Country Club.

The Owls finished 18 holes with a score of nine over par, good enough for a tie for fifth out of 43 teams.

Jonathan Oakes led Kenyon on the day, firing an even par 72. The sophomore led off his tournament with a 37 on the front nine including one birdie and two bogeys. He carded two more birdies on the back with one bogey to shoot 35 on his second nine, birdieing three of four par fives on the day. The next three Owls golfers finished within two strokes of each other, with Oliver McGovern leading the bunch in his NCAA Tournament debut with a 74 (+2). McGovern bounced back from a 40 on the front nine with three birdies on the back, good enough for a 34 and Kenyon's best nine hole score of the day.

Coming off of a first-place finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship, Jaiden Koonar was next up for the team, finishing at three over par (75). His front nine consisted of two bogeys and a birdie for 37, and he added another birdie en route to a 38.

Adrian Jordan's score was the last to count towards Kenyon's overall number, shooting the best round of the front nine with a steady 36. He fired a 40 on the second nine to finish at 76 (+4), tying for seventh overall in pars (13) in the process.

Rounding out the opener for the Owls was senior Armand Ouellette, who shot 40 on both sides with one birdie on each to finish at 80 (+8).

Illinois Wesleyan leads the tournament after round one at +2, while John Carroll and Carleton sit in second at +6. Aurora found fourth at +7, while Trinity (TX) and Huntingdon joined Kenyon at nine over par. After the conclusion of tomorrow's round, the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams will make the cut.
