USILA deals academic awards to Owls

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Tuesday's announcement from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) included a 2025 Academic Team Award for the Kenyon College Owls, as well as Scholar All-America honors for Thomas Nelson and Rollins Heath.

In order to receive the USILA Academic Team Award, all members of a team that competed in the 2025 season had to combine for a 3.0 grade point average or better. Kenyon's grade point average was 3.39 for the year, marking the fifth straight campaign the Owls earned the honor.

To be eligible for the Scholar All-America award, the USILA states that a student-athlete must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. The nominee must have behaved in a manner that brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.

Nelson, who graduated in May with a degree in history, was the best face-off man in the history of the Kenyon program. He set Kenyon career records for faceoffs won (902), faceoff win percentage (.685), and ground balls (619). He was a three-time all-conference honoree, a three-time all-region award winner, and a program best six-time All-American.

Heath earned his degree in economics. On the field, he was a leader in the midfield. This past season, he ranked third on the team with 39 points on 18 goals and a team-high 21 assists. That finalized his career numbers at 156 points, 86 goals, and 70 assists in 69 games played. Heath, like Nelson, was a three-time all-conference honoree. He also earned two all-region honors and three All-America awards.
