Blake bags NCAC Athlete of the Week award

CLEVELAND -- The Kenyon College men's soccer team scored two goals in a pair of 1-0 wins last week and first-year Grant Blake played a role in both of them. For his efforts, the North Coast Athletic Conference named him Athlete of the Week.

On Wednesday, in a road game at Franciscan University, Blake booted home the winner in the game's 58th minute. That goal came off a Kenyon corner kick and went in the books as Blake's first collegiate score.

A few days later, the Owls traveled to Hanover College to take on the Panthers. Blake, rostered as a defenseman, was credited with the assist on the Owls' game-winner, which was scored by classmate Jack Commandeur. Both the goal and the assist were the first of the classmates' very early collegiate careers.

Blake, who has helped steer the Owls to open the season with a 4-1-1 record, is currently tied for the team lead with three points. He, and the rest of the team, return to the pitch Saturday to host the Case Western Reserve University Spartans.
