Box Score GAMBIER, Ohio– In front of a spirited Homecoming crowd at McBride Field, the Kenyon College Football team fell to national ranked No.21 John Carroll University by a score of 52-0 on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Owls to 0-4 over and 0-2 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Blue Streaks improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The visitors got on the board late in the first quarter when quarterback Nick Semptimhelter connected with Kenneth Rawls for a 13-yard touchdown to cap a 12-play, 90-yard drive. The Blue Streaks extended their lead in the second quarter with a 31-yard field goal before Rawls struck again, hauling in a nine-yard touchdown pass. A Quincy Newsome three-yard rushing score in the final seconds of the half sent JCU into the locker room with a commanding 24-0 lead.
The Blue Streaks quickly pulled away in the second half. On their first possession of the third quarter, Nemo Jenkins broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run to make it 31-0. JCU added two more scores in the period: a 12-yard strike from Semtimphelter to Tyren Montgomery, followed by Rawls' third touchdown reception of the day on a 16-yard pass from backup Keller Moten. Jenkins capped off the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the fourth quarter to seal the 52-0 victory
Kenyon's offense was stymied throughout the day, limited to just 90 total yards, 62 through the air and 28 on the ground. Senior running back
Jordon Benjamin carried 11 times for 15 yards, while sophomore
Brendan Comerford paced the receiving corps with two catches for 29 yards, including a 26-yard grab late in the first half.
Defensively, junior
Jackson Belyn led the way with ten tackles while
Tanner Smith followed with eight total tackles. Overall, as a defensive force, the Owls notched three total sacks.
Kenyon has some extended time off before returning to action on Saturday, October 11, when they travel to Oberlin College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
